JET receives a boost from London Marathon Runners
On 23rd April, two very inspirational individuals took part in the famous London Marathon to raise awareness and vital funds for JET. In total the runners have raised over £1,000 which will enable JET to change the lives of young people across the UK.
For Ruth Barksby, this was her first full marathon. She told us “I can’t believe I did it. Only 5 days ago I was close to withdrawing due to an ankle injury I got 4 weeks ago. But I kept receiving emails from JET and well wishes and donations from people and I just knew I couldn’t let you all down. It was tough starting with a sore ankle but the crowds were amazing, they cheered runners all the way, shouting my name, I had a few other runners say “great charity” and “good cause” which obviously gave me such a boost. 5 hours and 30 minutes later I made it over the finish line and collected my beautiful medal. Today I’m sore and can barely walk, but that will go, the memories of the day will last forever.”
For Dean, this was his third time participating in the London marathon, but his ninth marathon overall. He said “It’s my pleasure to help out in any way that I can. Really pleased with my time especially as it was a lot warmer than expected. It was an amazing atmosphere and the best of the three that I have run.” Dean completed the route in a very respectable 3 hours 22 minutes. Dean will next be completing the Sleaford Half Marathon on the 7th May on behalf of JET.
