JET flying fun in the sun
The Shobdon ‘Food and Flying Festival’ is a very popular annual event in Herefordshire. This year over the weekend of 1st and 2nd July, over 6,000 people attended the festival and enjoyed a fantastic experience in glorious sunshine.
JET organised a ‘make and fly a paper plane’ competition. It was a popular and competitive event attracting large numbers of children and adults! Over 130 planes were built and flown in the main airfield hangar and the overall winner was Daniel Davies, aged 7 from Kington. He flew his plane 21.6m. Daniel said ‘Everybody tried really hard, but I was lucky because my design must have been the best!’ Other winners included Flo (15.7m) Cam, (15.7m) and Kai (15.4m).
A big thank you to Herefordshire Aero Club for inviting JET and to the air cadets and volunteers who helped JET run the event. Thank you also to everyone who gave funds to JET at the event. £140 was raised to help run youth programmes in the region.
Sue Burgess, Chair of Herefordshire Aero Club said ‘Thanks so much for all your time and hard work at the Food and Flying Festival – so many kids (young and old) had a great time making and flying their paper planes! I do hope that the Trust and Shobdon Airfield now have a good partnership established and we look forward to working with you long into the future.’
