Renee Buckland

Youth Liaison Officer Cornwall

I am Renee, the new Youth Liaison Officer for Cornwall. Having started in the role during June 2024, I will be running the youth programmes from September 2024.

I have come to JET after a long career with Devon and Cornwall Police, and before that was a school teacher for a voluntary organisation in Zimbabwe. In recent years I have specialised in working with children and young people and have worked closely with safeguarding partners.

The aims of the JET programmes really fill me with enthusiasm. I have encountered many young people who are not achieving their full potential for a variety of reasons, and I hope, in this role, to be able to provide opportunities for participants to grow in confidence and aspiration. I am excited about the possibilities for each and every one of our participants to graduate from their programme with additional skills and awareness, giving them brighter futures. I am looking forward to working with groups over sustained periods, and to seeing their development with the help of JET Blue Skies.

I grew up and have lived in Cornwall almost all my life. I love this county and enjoy our countryside and coast, our culture and our way of life, our community and our social events.  It is such a vibrant part of the country, and we have many advantages making it a great place to live and work. I intend to work with local partners to use our unique resources, military links, business and education landscape in a way that will serve the JET students and the wider community.

I’m delighted to have this chance to work with the JET team, who have been so friendly and supportive as I step into this role.
