Ten Blue Skies students aged 12 and 13 from Priory Witham Academy had history brought to life at the Battle of Britian Memorial Flight at RAF Coningsby in May. They heard inspirational stories about the pilots who flew the aircraft during World War II, sat in a Spitfire, looked inside a Lancaster Bomber and watched a flypast by a Dakota. They also took part in a team-work role play activity, acting out a real-life historical emergency scenario from a Lancaster crew.
The session was part of the group’s Blue Skies Level 1 teamwork programme and was focused on developing communication skills.

I thought the visit was educational, learning about planes, but in a fun way. I was good at asking questions because everything was so interesting

It was a pleasure to host the young people. Hopefully they have benefitted from the exercise by communicating better and learning more about the aeroplanes and the inspirational people who flew them.

The day was a fantastic opportunity to get close to an important part of our history. Working with the BBMF pilots really bought history to life and inspired our young people
