Students from years 8 and 9 at Barnes Wallis Academy took part in a teamwork awareness session. They worked in teams to create presentations about the importance of team work and the different roles that are needed in a team. Each of the teams took a different approach to their presentation, including a mannequin challenge and even a song and dance routine! Amy, 14 said “I loved writing the rap about team work. I didn’t think we could make it work but it was brilliant!”
They then put their theories into practice, building towers made only from spaghetti and marshmallows. The winning team built a four-storey tower and were able to explain how each member had contributed to the outcome.
All of the teams worked together and could explain their successes and how they overcame challenges. The students showed resilience in the face of difficulties – and made a very sticky mess along the way!
Rees, 13 said afterwards “It showed that, actually, it didn’t matter who won – it was about how we joined in with each other that made the real difference.”
Emma Whetton, JET teacher and our point of contact at the school said “It was a great session and the students really got something out of working together and creating something as a team.”
