Leadership and presentation skills developed at RAF Cranwell

On 21st February as part of their Blue Skies Level 2 Leadership programme, students from Priory Witham Academy visited RAF Cranwell.

In the morning the students were asked to take part in orienteering. The main aim of this exercise was to get the students to use the basic leadership skills they had learnt from the previous sessions and put them into practice.

They had to lead their small team from point to point, completing mental challenges at each point to get their next points location. All the students loved the exercise. One student quoted “It was so much fun and I’ve never had the opportunity to lead before. I feel really confident with leading and speaking to a small group now and want to do it again.”

After a warm lunch and having drunk the Officer’s Mess juice supply dry, it was down to the Met Office to practice giving presentations. The students were also shown around the office and equipment and allowed to ask any questions they liked. With the imminent arrival of Storm Doris the students loved seeing the screens light up and how the Met Office communicate this information to the pilots.

Soon it was the students’ turn in the briefing room to practice these skills in front of each other. This was great preparation for their graduation presentation in May.

The students, school and JET staff would like to thank everyone that volunteered to make this day happen and for their continued commitment to the Blue Skies programme in Lincolnshire.
