On Thursday 9th March the Blue Skies students from Priory Witham Academy visited to RAFC Cranwell to complete part of their Level 2 Leadership package with 45 SQN.
In the morning the students were asked to take part in an exercise that involved securing loads on a plane. The main aim of this exercise was to get two students to use their leadership skills to tell the team how to effectively store all the necessary equipment in a challengingly small space, under a strict time limit. In order to complete this exercise effectively, they also had to communicate with the other team to swap necessary equipment.
Two more students then took over to lead the securing phase. One of the students that was a leader for this task said “I’m learning great ways on how to delegate to a team to get the most out of them.” Another said “I want to thank Lee for teaching me how to communicate better when I’m leading a team.”
In the afternoon the students were very lucky as they were able to visit the flight simulators. Each student had the opportunity to take charge of the aircraft and fly us over the Peak District. The students went in pairs, one had the responsibility of being the pilot whilst the other had to help navigate and relay weather information to the pilot to enable them to stay on course. All the students showed fantastic communication and teamwork skills throughout this.
The students, school and JET staff would like to thank everyone that volunteered to make this day happen.
