Project Eggs

Project Eggs

On 21st February our Year 9 Blue Skies Level 1 students from Barnes Wallis Academy joined in with members of our Inspirational Outreach Year 8 JET team to compete to transport a cargo of eggs along a zip wire over the school netball courts. The teams were challenged to drop their cargo into two drop zones, either side of a mountain (simulated by a high fence) without it getting damaged.

Pupils used teamwork skills on the planning, design and build of their craft, including a mechanism to allow the cargo to be carried and then dropped at exactly the right moment, whilst moving at height, and hopefully with their cargo still intact.

The winning team’s cargo landed in one of the drop zones unharmed, while other teams successfully protected their load but dropped it just outside of the designated area.

Sam from the winning team said “It was a great day because we all got to compete against each other in teams and it was cool to see the other ideas from other teams.  My group worked well together because we came up with a good concept together that achieved the task – and we won!” and Sali, also on the winning team said “I enjoyed the Project X day because I learnt about teamwork and design.  My group won the task because we had a good idea and everyone worked well in a different job.”

Callum also spoke to our staff afterwards and said “I thought the day was really good and we developed teamwork and communication as a group. The staff were really helpful and supportive throughout the day and always encouraged our ideas.”

Emma Whetton JET Link Teacher said “All the students thoroughly enjoyed Project X. We are seeing such a difference in the pupils as a result of working with JET.”
