Our Blue Skies Level 3 students had a super morning at RAF Valley on Tuesday 27th June. Four members of the Ascent HR team flew up from Bristol to share their skills and secrets about how to write a great CV and how to prepare for an interview. The students were encouraged to think about their achievements and experiences and to list what skills they have gained from these. As well as the vast amount of skills they have honed from being part of the Blue Skies Programme, they could draw on their experiences of being in sport teams, volunteering and part-time jobs. After the session, the students did not feel so daunted about the prospect of writing their CVs and found it had boosted their confidence when they realised they had an array of skills to draw upon.
The Interview Skills session was fun, with lots of advice about the do’s and don’ts when being interviewed. The students really enjoyed the role play of a bad interview – acted wonderfully by Jemma and Lara – with students receiving prizes for noticing the things you shouldn’t do at an interview. The students walked away knowing the importance of preparation before the interview, what to bring, how to act, questions which may be asked and the need to ask the company questions too.
Thank you very much to Jemma, Claire, Lara and Philip for delivering such an important and valuable session.
