Bonny Greenhalgh, our new North Wales Regional Programme Manager organised an Inspirational Outreach assembly at Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi (Holyhead High School) on 26th April, led by Squadron Leader Duncan Mason.
Sqn Ldr Mason talked about his exciting and varied career, including serving as a Harrier pilot, a Red Arrows pilot and as Officer Commanding the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. The Year 9 pupils enjoyed listening to his tales and watched a video clip taken from the cockpit of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight flying over Buckingham Palace and other famous landmarks. Duncan discussed how his determination, hard-work and resilience helped him achieve his dream; he was accepted into the RAF after his third time of trying, demonstrating the importance of never giving up. He talked about how crucial it is to work hard at school, especially in English and Maths, which will put you in good stead for the future, but tenacity and drive are vital too.
As the Year 9 pupils have just chosen their GCSE options, Sqn Ldr Mason’s inspiring assembly was held at an invaluable time to spur the pupils on to do their best.
