Level 2 students' confidence rises on the climbing wall

On Thursday 17th November, our Blue Skies Level 2 students went to Indefatigable Climbing Wall as part of the Leadership syllabus. The session was delivered by John and Barry, who carried out some team games and warm-up exercises. In two teams of five, the students had to cross from one wall to the other using only three chairs and without touching the floor. There were quite a few wobbly moments but each team completed it successfully. Another game was to race across the climbing wall in two separate teams to collect karabiners, and then do it blindfolded.img_0399 img_04061

As the students had climbed previously on Level 1, the more confident ones were encouraged to instruct their peers about how to put the harness on, how to tie a figure-of-eight knot and how to belay. All the students encouraged and motivated each other throughout the day, especially when they had a turn at abseiling. img_0454img_0449 img_0402a img_0446 img_0467

Molly, 14 said “Today I mastered the belaying and I helped everyone who was stuck. I’m most proud of helping Kennedy when she was stuck at the top of the climbing wall when we were abseiling. I have improved from last year’s climbing session as I have become more of a leader and give out more instructions.”

Kieran also 14 said “I have climbed up the walls and auto-belayed. I have a lot more confidence than last year.”

Thank you to John, Barry and Indy Climbing Wall.
