Ysgol Llanfawr came along to Cwm Idwal in Snowdonia to spend the day using skills from previous sessions and to learn new ones. Pupils who have already taken part in an indoor climbing session had the opportunity to try climbing in the outdoors. All pupils had a go at climbing up the slab, which was a real achievement, however it was especially rewarding for one or two who had found the indoor climbing a challenge.
Pupils were then split into two teams and each had a go at learning how to use a compass and read a map.
Pupils were then given the task to navigate the group to set points selected by the group instructor John from Eagle House.
“This is really fun. We are out walking and because we can now map read we know exactly where we are going.” Fin, aged 10
“I really enjoyed being a navigator and leading the group.” Emily, aged 10
It was fantastic to see the confidence and leadership skills flourish in the young people throughout the day. John from Eagle House said:
“Today I have seen real courage in all of the young people. They have used clear communication and really taken care of each other. They have demonstrated real teamwork and every single one of them should be proud.”
