Our new Level 3 Blue Skies students had a fantastic first session on 27th April, delivered by Sgt Neil Madden. The morning had two elements: completing a Strength Deployment Inventory (SDI) and an Equality and Diversity talk.
The SDI test gave each student an opportunity to assess their strengths when relating to others, whether at school, at home, with friends or on work placements. All the students came out with different scores, with stronger personality traits than others. This led on to some interesting discussion points about how different people perceive situations and relationships, and that everyone has different motivations. It was discussed how this could affect relationships at school and in the workplace. Luke, 15 said “I enjoyed the group discussion today. I feel I have discussed my points and feel like I know a lot more than I knew about things before.”
The SDI testing also related to the Equality and Diversity talk, appreciating that they were all different personality types. There was a lot of discussion about the different groups of people in school, and about stereotyping. The students had a very honest and frank discussion about current issues regarding Equality and Diversity, including religion and gender.
“The thing I enjoyed the most today was seeing everyone else’s point of view. I have learnt more about why people judge others.” Jess, 15
Thank you to Sgt Neil Madden for delivering such a worthwhile session.
