Two Horizon Nuclear employees, Claire Burgess (Education Programme Co-Ordinator) and Delyth Owen, visited Level 3 Blue Skies students at Holyhead High this morning ( on Wednesday 16th November), to carry out 1:1 mock interviews. As the students are in Year 11, many of them will face college interviews in the next few months. To prepare the students, Bonny, our Regional Manager for North Wales, delivered a session a few days before about how to answer interview questions and about body language. The students agreed that a firm handshake, eye contact, sitting up straight and smiling were all important and immediately gives the interviewer a positive impression.
Although nervous, the students were put at ease by Claire and Delyth, who gently encouraged them to expand their answers. They were interviewed for up to 20 minutes, followed by some positive and helpful feedback, such as bringing a portfolio of work and achievements to share with the interviewer. The students drew on their experiences of participating in the Blue Skies programme for the last 3 years to answer the questions.
Claire said “You could see the distance that they’ve travelled through the experience of the JET programme. They were all happy to talk about themselves, something which some of them would not have been able to do a couple of years ago.”
Thank you to Claire and Delyth for giving up their time for the mock interviews; a truly invaluable session for our students.
