Reaching for the skies

Reaching for the skies
Blue Skies Level 1 and 2 students from Holyhead High School learning the ropes at Indefatigable climbing wall

The first Blue Skies session of the year was a fantastic opportunity for the students from Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi to “Reach for the Skies”.

The students were introduced to the programme, explaining how Blue Skies 1 (BS1) focusses on teamwork and confidence, while BS2 focusses on leadership skills. The students went to Indefatigable climbing wall to challenge their fears and to test their trust in their teammates.Blue Skies students from Holyhead High School are briefed about the climbing wallThe more experienced BS2 students guided the BS1 students, helping them tie ropes and teaching them how to belay, under the watchful eye of the instructors from Eagle House.

“I encouraged my team members and I became a leader to teach Level 1s how to do figure of 8 knots and help climb. I think I gained more of a leadership role.” Atia, aged 14.

The teamwork skills exhibited by the students was a joy to observe, with plenty of encouragement and praise, as well as demonstrating resilience and focus.

“I climbed to the top of the wall. I encouraged someone to try.” Callum, aged 13

“I improved my fear of heights and gave good positivity to other members that were scared.” Sion, aged 14
